When I was first asked to contribute to Speaking Your Truth, I have to say I was hesitant. I feel that in my current circumstances, I am in a position of leadership, and I feared that if people knew about the truth of my difficult past, they may see me differently. In fact, I actually told Andrea that I was going to decline submitting. She told me that they really wanted me to participate and then she shared what they had titled the book. I’ll never forget that moment. My heart stopped for a second as I knew more than I had ever known that it was time to speak my truth and this was the right opportunity, so I hugged her and said to forget what I’d just said about declining…

Upon writing my story for the book, I really started to feel the freedom of speaking my truth. After writing it, I also chose publicly share more about my story at one of my speaking engagements. I had never really shared much about myself personally before that and it made for a much stronger connection with my audience and offered me a much more authentic freedom to share from a place of the heart.

I am not only honored to have had this opportunity to be one of the contributing authors, but also am very grateful for the freedom that has become the companion to sharing through writing a story that I knew would be published. I did not expect it, but am embracing it.

Thank you, Lisa and Andrea. Your courage, professional savvy and friendship have made this a wonderful journey to remember!

The launch party was wonderful. I had starting reading the book by skipping around and first reading the stories of the ladies who I knew professionally. I wrote a note or called a few ladies whom I now felt I knew on a much more intimate level. I then began reading stories of other ladies I hadn’t met yet. One in particular really touched me. At the launch party, that author was there. I asked her if I could hug her and I couldn’t hold back the tears. Here I was hugging a complete stranger with whom I felt a deep emotional live for because he shared her story. It was beautiful.
On the way home, I was quietly reminded, as I drove by the house I grew up in (yes, I grew up in park hill, very near the location of the party- coincidence? haha), of how much my life had changed. My life, as difficult as it as been at times, brought me to THIS place, here and now, for such at time as this. Lovely. Absolutely lovely. Ahhhh :)

      Kris,

It is so great to hear what SYT is creating in your life. Thank you for being a part of this project and for spreading your light within the world. I am so curious about the story that spoke to you, it’s really amazing how all of us are touched by different stories at different points in our life.
      :) Andrea
