Why Speaking Your Truth book launch is important to me – Lisa Shultz

Birthing a book is similar to birthing a baby. First there is the conception. I don’t remember the exact date that the idea came to me exactly, but early 2009 I began to ask publically for stories to a book I wanted to create. There was no name for it at the time. It was just an idea.

I began asking those in attendance at Women, Wine, and Wellness about my idea and eventually began mentioning it in social media. After a half of year of asking for submissions, I got my first one! Andrea Costantine submitted her story, and that provided fuel to the project. It also eventually led to our partnership on the book.

At the end of 2009, I set the intention to have the book complete in 2010 and set a deadline for submissions in February. I also set the intention of 50 chapters, and we ended up with 49! I asked Andrea to be my partner in bringing the book to reality and fortunately she accepted.

Together we crafted a “birth plan” setting deadlines and picking the date of August 25 for our launch. It sort of felt like choosing a date to deliver a baby by caesarian section. Then we had to get the “room” ready and get all the stuff in place to take care of it when it arrived.

And there were complications along the way! Occasionally something would slip through the cracks causing us to have to make some quick adjustments. Sometimes we just didn’t know how to do something and so searched for someone to help us.  Formatting became a nightmare and caused us stress that we tried to keep to ourselves.

As August 25 approaches, I feel ready to give birth officially to the book and let the public view it. I imagine we will get reviews of all kinds and already have some. No matter how many times we looked at it and had others look at it, we missed things. We made errors. I am a perfectionist, so finding an error makes my stomach twist.  I am learning to let that go!

We look forward to creating future volumes of Speaking Your Truth. We also wanted to share what we learned so others who are birthing a book can have an easier time of it. We are going to present the world a new book in October entitled, How to Bring Your Book to Life This Year, http://www.BringYourBookToLifeThisYear.com. So many people have told us along the way that they are also writing a book and begin to ask us questions about the process. So we have compiled all we have learned into a workbook for those who aspire to write and publish something of their own.

In closing, giving birth to Speaking Your Truth: Courageous Stories from Inspiring Women is just the beginning. Andrea and I look forward to birthing siblings to it. Giving birth to two human daughters changed my life and has been one of my greatest pleasures. Since they are about to graduate from high school now, I am ready to give birth again to something new that will keep me busy when they are off to college!

What does being a part of the Speak Your Truth mean to Elana Perry?

I first learned about this project while attending a Women, Wine and Wellness event hosted by Lisa Shultz.  I found the overall concept of this book; of inviting other women to share their personal stories inspiring.  I had always wanted to share my personal truth with others and truly believed that though my pain and heartbreak I could somehow inspire and help other young women to rise above their loss and love themselves.

Writing my truth was not an easy task.  Truth be told, it was downright difficult at times.  The raw emotion I was forced to re-live;  that which I had buried deep within my soul  for so many years frighten me, there were times I found myself lamenting uncontrollably.  “Have I opened Pandora’s Box?” I thought.   Perhaps, but it was time for me to deal with that hurt and not continue to cower away from it.  It was time for me to release it and be free!  I was determine to face those emotions head on, unafraid and with courage.  It was somehow bigger than me; I was doing it for YOU the reader of this project.

My sole desire was and remains that the readers of this project find hope, courage, and inspiration to share her story and release the pains of the past in order to find her true strength and beauty.   My wish is that these stories empower others push through their pain and find their voice again to ultimately speak their truth.

I am excited and grateful to have been a part of a book project where I was able to share my story and hopefully inspire other women to author their own.

What Speaking Your Truth Means to Me – Ginny Fleming

Being a part of the “Speaking Your Truth” project has given me a confidence in my work that is expanding into every aspect of my life now.  Finally, I feel like a “real writer”!  Having written creatively since I was in middle school or so, now, at age 50, I am realizing my dream to be published at last!

I have been shy about my writing throughout the years – sharing it only with a few family members or close friends or in writing workshops. Plus, the content of these particular essays is extremely personal and candid – requiring courage for us contributors to “put the truth out there.”  So it was with some trepidation that I stepped out of my comfort zone to enlist the support of friends and family in helping spread the word about this powerful book,  sending them my essay in advance.  All I have contacted have been extremely encouraging and this response has given me just the nudge I’ve needed to pursue my writing, as well as the sharing of the healing tools I’ve discovered in my own journey.  I feel like a new chapter of my life is just beginning!

It is an honor to be included in this book, which contains some awesome stories by amazingly strong women who have overcome their own particular obstacles in life.  It is my hope and confidence that many other women around the country will gain their own sense of personal empowerment as they read the stories of triumph in these pages.

Prior to having children, Ginny was an Account Executive for a high tech advertising agency.  Prior to getting sick in 1990, she had her own free lance marketing and public relations business.  Today, Ginny’s passion is empowering other women through private healing sessions, rich friendships, and teaching kundalini yoga and meditation.  She is also a writer and lover of books.  When not escaping to their little beach house, Ginny lives in Wake Forest, NC with her husband, Michael, and her sweet 15-year old golden/border collie, Bailey.  Contact Ginny at gmfleming1124@gmail.com

Andrea Reveals What Speaking Her Truth Means to Her

It’s hard to believe that I wrote the first draft of my story over a year ago. It took me months to muster up the courage and finally get the nerve to put my truth down on paper.

Little did I know that the submission and the pure desire to be an author would then put other beautiful things into alignment.  I barely knew Lisa Shultz when I submitted my chapter, luckily a colleague who knew I had a passion for writing passed along her submission requirements.  I eagerly complied.

Months later my relationship with Lisa progressed and as we created a writing workshop to help get stories for the book, we saw magic happening.  When I joined forces on Lisa’s creation I was excited and exhilarated at the thought of having my very own book!

For years I dreamed of being a writer and having multiple books, but the thought of a book always seemed like such a daunting task.  Yet, Speaking Your Truth came to be in less than nine months. Having a partner like Lisa made it easy – we split up the tasks, utilized our strengths, and picked each other when needed to muster the courage to keep on keeping on.

Not only has the book evolved into something great, I too have personally evolved over these past nine months. At the start of the year I was on a path of coaching business owners and now I’ve excitedly (and a bit nervous too) stepped into a path of full-time writing and artistry.

The book opened up the heavens of possibility for me and I can now see the perfect and divine order of  all of the events leading up to this moment.

Speaking my truth has led me to living my truth.

Just over a year ago I told a friend, if I could do anything I’d be a writer and an artist…. “Well why don’t you?” was his reply. But I didn’t see it then, I couldn’t feel its ability to be real. Now I see it. Now I’m living it.

I invite you to join us in the celebration of Speaking Your Truth, grab your copy on Amazon on August 25th and attend the launch party in September or perhaps even start writing your own truth to share with the world.

A Note From Co-Creator Lisa Shultz

As the person who had a dream of creating a book of stories by women for women to help inspire others, it is now a dream about to be reality. I knew in 2009 that I wanted to put this book together. So I put out the word that I wanted chapter submissions. None came for a long time. There seemed to be interest, but months went by without a single entry.

Then I got my first one from Andrea Costantine who later became my business partner in the project. Her story moved me to tears, and I knew that if I had a book of stories as moving as hers, it would be a dream come true. So I kept asking.

I got feedback that people wanted to give me their story but were stuck in how to get it down on paper. Some had never made the story public before. So Andrea put on a writing workshop in January of 2010, and we set a submission deadline for early February.

The combination of the workshop and a deadline worked. I set the intention of 50 chapters, and we received 49 that we accepted into the book.

The smartest thing I did along the way was to ask Andrea to partner with me. I know I could have done it alone, but it may have taken a few more years! It is hard to do a big project like this alone. Together we utilized each other’s strengths and spur each other on.

Setting deadlines for our contributors and for ourselves has helped immensely to get the project to a finished state. Andrea can attest that I would have massaged the book for a few more months editing night and day and re-reading and polishing and then looking at it one last time again.

Finally I did let it go to print. I knew that in order for an amazing positive ripple effect to occur, it had to be released to the public. Those stories will impact others only if read, and I am ready for them to be read. I am ready for each and every one of the contributors to be recognized for their courage to stare their story and for helping others to realize that they are not alone.

August 25th feels like a due date of my third baby. (I already have two teenage girls). Like real babies, this birth has the possibility to change my life and the world as it moves around into the hands of readers everywhere.

I trust that the little errors that I might have missed in editing will be overlooked in the big picture of the wisdom and healing potential that those stories can provide.

Please celebrate these brave women with your support. Spread the word and let the ripple effects begin!

What Speaking My Truth Means To Me – Sabrina Risley

Contributing my story to Speaking Your Truth was such a chore.  Did she just say that?  Yes I did… it was a chore!  I struggled to put words into print, thinking my story wouldn’t be of interest to anyone.  However, we all have a story.  And the truth is, while you may not feel your story has significance, another woman will find your story meaningful and worthwhile, inspiring her with exactly what she needed to read right at the moment she read it.  Women have so much to share and even more to learn from one another.  I realized this further after reading countless chapters from contributing authors.  As I devoured the stories from women just like me, I celebrated their success in overcoming obstacles, I appreciated their triumph over fear, and I related to their vulnerabilities exposed in print.  I realized that as I wrote my story and revealed my fears, I felt empowered to look within myself to find a comfortable place to appreciate transparency.

I am very proud and honored to be part of Speaking Your Truth, a wonderful compilation of inspiring stories from remarkable women.  It has been extraordinary to witness how beautifully this book came together, seemingly with ease, although it was quite a labor of love on the part of Lisa Shultz and Andrea Costantine.  Speaking Your Truth couldn’t help but be a powerful book as it is spearheaded by these two inspirational women.  When women unite, incredible things happen!

Speaking Your Truth is full of hope. Inside these pages are inspiring stories from courageous women who have overcome life’s obstacles. No matter what life throws at you, when you are surrounded by your girlfriends, you find the strength and the love you need make it through, often discovering that the pain was part of your beautiful journey.  As girls grow up to become women, you never outgrow your need for girlfriends. Speaking Your Truth is full of all your girlfriend’s stories all wrapped up in one beautifully written book.”

What Speaking Your Truth Means To Me – Galit Lazar

The event that has defined my life the most is something that very few people have the courage to speak about and that is failure. When I experienced failure I started to search for who I really am and start to love myself. While writing the chapter I learned much more lessons and also realized how much I have accomplished. I learned that failure is in fact success. When I read the chapter I couldn’t believe at what I have created. You see, when I started writing, I was a horrible writer, but when I had to face failure and depression, I suddenly started to write everyday and amazing things has happened to me. Writing this chapter has proved to me that I can indeed accomplish more then I think if I put my mind to it. I always dreamt of being a  published author and Andrea Constantine has made my dream came true and I am so grateful for this opportunity.

In my chapter I am describing how I have conquered failure, how I have discovered the meaning of success and how I found my passion and got the courage to pursue it. The Oprah show has changed my life. So if you want to know how, read my chapter and discover the wonderful miracles that also can happen to you.

What Speaking Your Truth Means to Me – Denye Robbins

Truth to me has much to do with our natural state of BE-ing.  We are the Truth.  The IS-ness and Such-ness of life itself.  For so long the truth has been shadowed.  For women, truth has mostly  been denied and shut down.  The reemergence of the Divine Feminine/Goddess energy has provided an outlet for the ultimate truth to once again be revealed.  The goddess is everywhere, present at this time and for what it’s worth, now she is safe to express the truth.  Truth revealed in ways that has not always been comfortable to a patriarchal society.  For the first time in thousands of years she is being heard, noticed, counted, and seen.  Her contributions to the collective are vast.  This time she is not being boiled, baked, beheaded and burned at the stake for voicing the truth.

Truth used to get us in big trouble (the daughters of Eve have carried the burden of the lie of humanities fallen nature for eons).  The Truth of our healing abilities, our insights, our intuitiveness, our connection to the earth, our sensual natures, our compassionate hearts, our nurturing ways got us declared witches, heretics, and ex-communicated because these “gifts” were misunderstood, and mostly a threat to those in power at the time.  No longer is it necessary to shield and protect our truth for fear of oppression, tyranny and control.

Some of the women leaders of the free world are now holding the space, prayers,  and expectation for these new energies of truth to trickle down to the third world nations where our sisters will soon be able to speak, do and BE the truth once again.  The truth that we are not fallen in our nature or separated from God at all.  We never have been.  The Myths of Eve having eaten us all out of house and home are to be revealed as untruths.  The truth of our perfection, wholeness and healed image and likeness take their place instead.

The world watches and waits as the new paradigm continues to unfold – where the truth of whom we are, and our enlightened /self realized nature can shine like the sun beaming authenticity to all corners of the planet.

I AM THAT, I AM.  This is the truth.  Willing to forgive and forget the oppression, control and tyranny of the good old boys world that is soon to be balanced by the compassionate love and light, by the heart of a Goddess and her sisters. Yes… we can, in Truth, which is Love.

Speaking Your Truth is like a bowl of grandma’s soup on a cold day. These wonderful, inspiring stories feel like a long-lost friend who cares about your success and well-being. The voices of these women will be with me every twist and turn and sometimes every dead-end of my journey.”
